In the summer of 2012, I got my first job working for an outdoor store in Utah. As part of the team, I received an Outdoor Research Ferrosi Jacket but I hadn't heard of the OR brand until then. I decided to do some “research” on my own and learned the company had been making adventure gear since 1981. OR has created many award-winning products including Lodestar Gloves, Seattle Sombreros, Crocodile Gaiters, and the Sombriolet sun hat, just to name a few.
I learned more about Outdoor Research when I started working at Travel Country Outfitters in Orlando, Florida. They held clinics hosted by many major brands including Outdoor Research. At each clinic, a professional trainer with years of experience educated the staff about the intricacies of the fabrics and technologies used to design the apparel and gear as well as the perfect piece for every adventure.
That was when I fell in love with Outdoor Research, in particular, their Ferrosi line of clothing and outerwear. I love the rugged quality with which it is made. I love the way it fits me. I love OR’s unconditional guarantee. When OR says unconditional they mean it. For example, I received an OR Deviator Hoody for Christmas. Just a few days later I wore it mountain biking. My bike slipped on a wet section of the trail and I fell, tearing a hole in the jacket. I sent OR a picture of my jacket and they sent me a brand new one no questions asked. Another time I fell on a hike and put a hole in the knee of my Ferrosi pants. Again, I sent them a picture and they sent me a new pair of pants. When Outdoor Research says unconditional guarantee they mean it.
All Ferrosi pieces are made of a durable, lightweight, stretchable nylon that allows the piece to move with you. The advanced fabric is also wind resistant. Ferrosi pants have a cinch cord at the bottom which allows you to tighten them around your ankles, calves or knees. These pants can be worn all year long, but because they are so breathable I wouldn’t recommend them in an alpine climate or temperatures below 40. All Ferrosi pieces have DWR or “Durable Water Repellent”. This means that if I get caught in a sudden downpour, my Ferrosi clothing will shed water. However, this doesn't mean the items are waterproof. Whether I am hiking, backpacking, camping, paddling or mountain biking some sort of OR Ferrosi apparel will be in my pack or on my body.
